These boots were made for walking…. and showing off!

Now that the seasons are changing, and it is officially too cold to be wearing open toe shoes without feeling like a frostbite victim, we wanted to turn your attention to one of our FAVOURITE autumn/winter wardrobe items… BOOTS!

As soon as that cold chill creeps in to the wind, ladies everywhere starting to bring out their opaque tights and we know it’s time to check out some fancy footwear.

Since we love them SO much, we have curated some of the ones we’re absolutely lusting over to help you wade through the sea of shoes that even a pro shopper can get lost in!

We’ll start with a classic: The Ankle Boot:

Super popular, cut in a classic black, likes these from Trenery, $249:

So, if you’re looking for something that’ll go from day to night in a flash, a black pair with a chunkier low heel is a great item to add to your list. Our tip is to make sure there’s a bit of space between you and the boot, you don’t want it to be gripping your ankle for dear life. The gap will actually make your legs look longer!

A great ankle detail like this bargains from Billini at Birdsnest ($79.95), will help make your black boots feel extra special:

And, as much as we love a classic black pair, this season it’s all about taking risks with pieces like this animal print pair from The Iconic  ($299) which would look AMAZING paired with some tailored black trousers and a loose metallic sweater or a bright blazer that pops. Can you say fierce?

We also really love a nice camel coloured boot in a sumptuous textile like this suede DV by Dolce Vita pair, $85, with a gorgeous perforated middle detail:

OR these lust-worthy Rag&Bone Harrow boots, $561, a fav with Reese Witherspoon, Alessandra Ambrosio and Julianne Hough:

One of my other favourite boot styles, which is always in fashion, is:

The Riding Boot:

These boots look best when they hit right below the knee and pair perfectly with ponte pants (an a/w staple).

I currently have both black (Wanted) and chocolate brown (Ralph Lauren) pairs of riding boots in my wardrobe,  we highly recommend investing in range of colours. You can match them with tights, wool winter skirts, ponte pants and coloured skinnies. The possibilities are endless!

Look for deep caramel shades which mix well with a cooler winter palette like these Vince Camutos (from $99-$198):

For something a bit different try these Steve Madden boots, (from $169.95) with an exposed red accent zip that is just gorgeous:

And finally, if you’re looking to add some major drama, you have simply got to try the hottest boot trend:

OTK aka Over-The-Knee.

Designers from Tony Bianco to Alex Perry are loving this design right now!

Definitely a splurge item, $1700, Gianvito Rossi, OTK ones are perfect with a pointy toe and in this suede material. For added flair try these Brian Atwood ‘Ares’ boots which feature quilted leather and gold hardware, ($852), we also adore these trendy (and less exy at $120) oxblood, River Island OTK boots. Such a great statement item. Pair them with a cream blouse, a leather a-line skirt and tights:

So, when you’re out boot shopping, just remember Ruby Slippers Top Tips:

-Look for sumptuous fabrics (ones that will last and just scream luxury)

-Extra detailing that stands out (think quilting, buckles and statement stitching)

-Leather, leather, leather! (if in doubt, go with a sleek, black leather pair – it really is a no brainer)

-A heel you can actually walk a mile in (think stacked and a bit thicker than usual).

Because your boots should be made for walking… and flaunting with all of your friends!
