Winter Warmers; Autumn Fashion at it’s finest!!!

One of the best things about the days getting shorter and the temperature falling is being able to purchase all those lovely winter warmers (jumpers, boots and scarves oh my!). But the top of the winter fashion pyramid is definitely….. the winter coat!

Something I have learned to appreciate is a great winter coat. One in a stand-out colour, with a great embellishment or with a fantastic texture (wool is your best friend) can end up stealing the show from even the most fabulous of party outfits.

I always gravitate to basic styles with an eye catching feature like this  grey number with a waterfall neckline:

ASOS

Pastels are everywhere on the runway, pink in particular, with shades ranging from pale pearl to muted fuchsia, all equally delicious. Long lengths are great as long as you stick to a nicely tailored style:

Now, for all the daring ladies out there, I am absolutely in LOVE with this River Island Camel Coat with colour blocked sleeves and dramatic fur collar and this wild leopard car coat. So out of the box and amazing.

If you’re into the classics, try a twist on a regular trench by grabbing one in a bold hue, like this cranberry coloured one from ASOS:

Collarless styles are still very much in, try one in a structured fabric which will hold up against the elements. I have a wool one similar to this that I wore 24/7 in NYC this winter. Best purchase ever.

For some drama, try a coat with a dramatic neck like these two little numbers:

So go on, embrace winter (coats!), because who cares what you’re wearing underneath when you look this good?

Big Boobs need Stylish Support Too!!!

Just because your boobs are a D cup or bigger doesn’t mean your bras need to resemble your Grandmothers!

I feel your pain if you’ve ever browsed the pretty underwear ranges in our department stores only to find that your assets are proving to be quite the opposite! As you scan through the sizes on the hangers of all the styles you like, you’re left feeling more than a little deflated that it’s only the boring bolder holders that come in your size.

I have seen SO many ladies wearing the wrong size bra; the statics sit at 4 in every 5 of us. So, it’s really important to get yourself fitted properly. A properly fitting bra can not only change your comfort factor, but also how your clothes look and feel.

If you have a fuller bust, it’s really important that your bra is fitted. So many ladies scoop themselves into bra’s 3 or 4 sizes smaller, or wear  one too big in size across their back. It totally ruins your shape and distorts the look of your clothes….Lets not even get started on the impact to your back, neck, shoulders etc.

WELL, no more!!! Our lovely friends over at Storm in a D Cup have rewritten the rules and are here to ensure that whatever size your ‘girls’ are, they’ll have something stylish to suit you.

Sharon Bra, available in sizes D to H cup, $79.95

I was blown away by the range of sizes and styles they had! I’ve never seen so many beautiful bras in such big sizes. They start at 6D and go up to…we’ll if they haven’t got it big enough they’ll find it for you!

They also carry a huge range of MATERNITY BRA’s….if you’ve ever looked for a stylish/sexy maternity bra above a D cup, you’ll know it would be easier to find rocking horse poop, so I felt like I’d struck gold when I found some gorgeous styles that fitted like a glove!

Toffee Bra, Sizes D to F, $64.95

You’ll find when pregnant your bra size may creep up a few sizes, especially in the first three months, we asked Esther Labi at Storm in a D Cup to give us some tips on Maternity Bras to help any ladies unsure what to do…

–          Look for bra’s with more than 4 rows of hooks on the back.  Your ribs will expand during pregnancy so it’s good to have the maximum growing room here.

–          Get a bra with clips on the straps, you’ll need a feeding bra so when you’re fitting get one of these now, save you buying another closer to the babies due date.

–          You may wish to get a flexiwire (thin flexible wire) or a wireless bra, best to check with your doctor or midwife about this before purchasing a new bra.

–          Buy 3 bras; then you’ll always have one to wear, one in the wash and one in the draw!

–          Keep your old bras; you don’t know what size you’ll go back to.

If you’re Sydney based, check out the range and services at Storm in a D Cup, the ladies are super friendly, have bags of experience and can find you something you’ll love in minutes.

They open Monday – Saturday, but if that doesn’t work for you, call them they’ll arrange an appointment after hours just for you

Bringing Oscars Glam into your Everyday!

I’m sure you all, like me, were drooling over the couture on the Oscars red carpet yesterday.

But, something I always wonder is how to take that glamour and translate it into something a bit more.. wearable. Something we ladies can rock on at home, out on the town or just into the office tomorrow. Because why should we only shine for red carpet events?

So, I’ve taken my top style pics from the A-listers who graced Hollywood last night and transformed their looks into style we can copy without feeling costumey.

First up, and one of my favourite looks of the night: Kate Hudson in a stunning [plunging] Versace gown and cape in silver.  The element that I LOVE about this look is the cape, but this can be hard to pull off, especially in a look at me colour like shimmering silver.

Kate HudsonCAPE

I would shorten the length and look for a great coat in a textured fabric like wool, perfect for the Autumn change in temperature. We love this cape from Warehouse.

Next up, Matthew McConaughey and Camilla Alves in a Dolce&Gabbana suit and Gabriella Cadena gown.I think that these looks can BOTH be transferred to the everyday. Yes, Matthew’s too!

Try picking that beautiful baby pink (OPI’s ballet slipper is perfect) colour for your next mani. It’s a great neutral and matches with everything.

Baby-pink-nail-art (2)

Grab a structured white blazer with black trim to get that classy “tux” look. Pair it with waxed jeans or little shorts, and a great heeled boot for a look that will take you from meeting on Friday to cocktails with your girlfriends.

Sandra Bullock wore a stunning grecian style Alexander McQueen gown, and Amy Adams shined in a structured Gucci number, both hitting high notes in a rich cobalt shade.

 oscars2014

This colour is not for the shy, and can really dominate your outfit if you let it.  Try breaking up the colour by picking a textured envelope clutch or a statement necklace with various cobalt tones. Pair it with other jewel tones, perfect additions for your fall wardrobe.

 David Lawrence                                                   Brinabox

And last, but not least, Lupita Nyong’o. Her ethereal blue Prada gown is SO stunning it doesn’t need to be adapted at all.

Lupita-Nyongo

DSQUARED2 does a lovely draping in a similar colour and the result is equally as stunning. It reminds me of a modern day Cinderella.

BLUE DRESS

Perhaps not for the everyday, but hey, we all need a good ball gown for that special occasion don’t we?

So don’t be scared to turn your Red Carpet lusts into shopping list must haves!  It can be done, get creative! Fashion is all about having fun and making a bit of a statement with your everyday wardrobe.
